2015 - The results are out...

Hello everyone….

So 2015 was ages ago and the final tables didn’t come out, I apologies it’s taken so long. Being away in December in Oz then having so much to do since I return its been hard to find the time.

2015 was the 3^rd year league ran and the time I could put into it demised with weddings and honeymoons, but there has also been a tail off in participation. It also (for some) has not become what the vision was at the start. I have considered many options but for 2016 its time to take a rest from yPL. Maybe it will be back in 2017 in a different guise. But let’s celebrate what we finished with in 2015.

Overall Time League Gregan powered to over an 11 and a half minute lead over Keith L. who were the only entrants to run all 8 parkruns this year. Keith was able to snatch the WAVA league though from Gregan as his pace for is age is superior. It was a close call though as Keith had to run Graves, Peter Pan and Sewerby in the last few weeks of the year.

A special mention to Dave Playforth and Sheila Maddison, both not only finished above me on these tables but seemed to do really well, especially Sheila.

The mini league was wrapped up many moons ago, but was by far the most interesting and I did consider keeping this league only going this year…..maybe this will be 2017 onwards. As its more attainable to complete the runs we had 8 people complete all four and another 6 complete 3 out of the 4. Gregan finished top, Dawn finished top lady and on a personal note 3^rd place was nice to achieve.

Unique runs table, this is the one that takes the most time to process. I keep a list of all the parkruns each individual runs in a year, compare that the new ones ran since the last update, then anyone with names I am unfamiliar with I have to check if it’s in England or beyond. Takes time. This year again was dominated by John and Dawn Broom and John once again got the better of it by the odd run. My four international runs did not help me too much, seems Gregan is getting into the tourist mode nowadays and his 28 different parkruns brought him home in forth behind Keith, Dawn and John.

So that’s the update, I hope you have all enjoyed it. If anyone wants to continue this in this guise or another similar one, I’m happy to hand over the reigns. Just let me know…

Happy parkrun eve to you all,

Please see the tables for the latest standings. Its been a while but Gregan seems way out in-front for the Overall Time League, not just because he is the fastest amongst us but because he is the only person to complete the full set of parkruns. I will fail to do this for the first time in 3 years this year, which does disappoint me. So big well done to Gregan, who else will complete all the runs? There has been some good improving runs on this table, Sheila’s run at Hull stands out. Of the events Woodhouse Moor (Leeds) and Graves have only had 5 runs between them which is a shame, I certain love the gut busting feeling at Graves.

The WAVA League is again headed up by Gregan and second is Dave Playforth, but can he hold on from Keith Littlewood and John and Dawn Broom? I sit here writing this thinking, no I can catch him, I can go do Pontefract or Scunthorpe tomorrow, but Kristina is straightening her hair tonight so she won’t be running and it always feels less wholesome when we go but Kristina does not run. Should I just leave her to have a lie in……hmmmm food for thought....

On the Mini League, the top 7 runners have completed all the runs so this feels a lot more complete to me. There are a further 6 people one run from completing this. Is this league more relevant, more attainable, more fun? Is 4 better than 8? Any thoughts welcome…? Anyway top of the pile is Gregan, but the closest battle is between Dave Playforth and Dawn Broom. Will Dawn revisit somewhere to try to find 42 seconds to overhaul Dave?

Unique runs, its seems John as found a way again to leave Dawn a run behind. I am not sure how this worked, but if I was Dawn I would have a sneaky visit a friend in Wales or Scotland one week and catch him back up, even better a trip to Northern Island or Ireland to overtake. Keith Littlewood is the first amongst us to run in France. There is a lonely single parkrun in Les Dougnes parkrun, Cubnezais on its 22^nd run to date. Update 04/09/15 - Autumn feels like it is here....

Hi all,

Quick update as it’s been a while and I am short of time, need to pack a bag for Abingdon parkrun tomorrow.

Overall Time, Sewerby and Peter Pan seem to have been popular for improvement over the last few weeks, Dave Playforth has got himself up into 3^rd place, who will chase him down, anyone?

Yorkshire Mini League, plenty of improvement here but Gregan is way out ahead…I wont be catching him, but I am in second place who will knock me off?

WAVA League, I think Keith Littlewood can catch Gregan but will he? I’m enjoying the battle with Simon Porter in this one, but I think he has my number!

Unique Runs, I noticed Stephen Maddison’s run in Scotland, that nearly tripped me up. Eglington parkrun! Think this is a battle of the Brooms…will they share the glory this year?

Update 15/7/15

Good evening everyone. Sat in my hotel room in Manchester I have updated the yPL. I did half a update 22^nd of June but never managed to complete it, its been playing on my mind!

So do I get any extra points for running Hull parkrun on my wedding day? Probably not, shame. In related news Kristina Rose is now Kristina Gadie!

So since 15^th of May what has been going on? The tables are now taking shape, some in very familiar fashion. Certainly not a new year a new Broom, but at least it is competitive even if it’s in the family.

So Overall Time table now sat at the top is Gregan ‘the Gregster’ Clarkson. Runs at Graves and Sewerby just leaves Gregan with Woodhouse Moor (formally Leeds parkrun) and Scunthorpe to go. Assuming Gregan runs at both its seems like he has it in the bag! Since at all the other runs Gregan has got sub 17 minutes, that’s a hard act to follow. Good progress since the last update by Dave Playforth and Ashley Porter who have knocked 3 scoring runs off.

East Yorkshire Mini league Gregan sits top again, but Humber Bridge must be tough as Gregan has only a 17.01 there. Come on Gregan don’t spoil the pattern. Also completing all four runs is Dave Playforth and Rick Pullan

The WAVA (Age Grade) league is very competitive again this year. Gregan sits on top but Keith Littlewood certainly has the better percentage scores in the bag but less events. Dave Playforth is sitting strongly in third place who is going to catch him? Sat at the bottom of the league is Kristina Gadie. At this rate I will be renaming her Kristina Rose…! Come up on your feet Kristina!

Unique Runs table is dominated by the Brooms, this is similar to last year but now Dawn seems to be fit enough to run regular John has his work cut out if he intends on winning this outright. So will there be a join winner this year….? Bet Keith Littlewood still has half an eye on the prize!

That it from me for now, wedding is now done and dusted and even though I will not be around to update yPL at the end of the year due to honeymoon, I hope you will let me off. There will be more regular updates between now and then, but the final update of 2015 will be done a few weeks into 2016.  If anyone wants to share some pictures of parkruns from their travels send them to me and I will put on the blog.

Update 15/5/15 (nice date that)

Happy parkrun eve to you all. So as Kristina goes away on her hen weekend, that gives me time to update yPL.

Now on my stag a few weekends back I ran Krakow parkun. I am not so sure a parkrun is in Kristina’s plans while she is away, which I think is a shame and a lack of commitment to yPL unique runs table! Well done to Keith Gadie and Keith Conkerton at running Karakow too. Getting up to get on the start line was not easy, at least they were not in a pink mankini!

So back to business. Rick Pullan has made some good strides up the tables since the last update and is the man to catch on the Mini League. Dave Playforth it the only other runner to have two bits of yellow against his name, an improvement at Hull and a run at Scunthorpe. Keith Littlewood not only is the top Keith in the Overall time and Wava tables but is the top runner, who is going to catch him; if anyone? Unique run is still headed up by the Broom’s, will John break away this year like last or is Dawn going to keep with him all the way…time will tell.

Have a good parkrun day tomorrow. I was going to do Rother Valley, but no, another crack at sub 20 this year it will be for me at Hull…..so no booze tonight! Feet up rest J

Update April 10th

Hello everyone,

Please see the tables for the latest positions. We have a new member Kay Farrow how contacted me in February to join. So lots of yellow splashed everywhere and too many good runs to pick out a few. Plenty going on gave a good look at the tables and set your sights on your next parkruns! Weather is so much nicer now but not too hot so this is the time of year to get those scoring runs in, if your fit and ready to go. Ill be at Hull tomorrow so anyone there, say hi.

Update 4th March

It’s been a while I hope you are all enjoying your parkruns!

I have visited York and Rotherham in the last two weeks and enjoyed both. York I have been to before but Rotherham was my first time. It’s a three lap course, undulating but very nice. All paths and reminded me of how Hull was about 4 years ago with a turnout around 50. I can certainly recommend a visit.

So the leagues, what’s what. We have 5 people that have run three of the courses in the main league at Gregan has picked up a decent lead in the overall time and WAVA. My fiancée Kristina Rose is propping up the tables as the only competitor not to have run. That said she is on her way back and ran at Rotherham last week.

John and Dawn Broom are 4 points ahead on the unique runs table as their adventures continue I wonder if anyone can challenge them this year like Keith Littlewood did last year?

The new Table this year, the mini east Yorkshire table will be interesting. This is designed as having a small number of events (four) to allow those that don’t travel too much to get involved properly. Ashley Porters top of the tree at the moment with Dave Playforth not far behind.  

Next week there is a new parkrun starting in Halifax, Wetherby in the not too distant future too.

New year, new start… 30 Jan 2015

Hello all,

Please see below the latest tables for the pYL. We have 4 new runners over last year’s competition (welcome) anyone else can join in at any point up until the end of February. Just send me your registered name on parkrun and your unique number. Anyone not included who was included last year, I have not included you because I don’t think I have hear from you. Please let me know if you want to be back involved. We have the same tables are last year and for 2015 only we have one extra one that is an overall time table for Hull, Sewerby, Peter Pan and Humber bridge.

Leeds parkrun will be soon known as Woodhouse Moor parkrun, so that change is shown in the tables. Personally I wish it had stayed as Leeds, the formatting of the tables now looks odd! Ah well ;-)

It’s very early days I won’t go into analysis of the tables, it’s there for us all to look at. Enjoy your parkrun weekend and hope to see you all out there. Let hope the weather holds….no ice please!

2014 League Tables, the results are in.....

So there we have it last parkrun of 2014 is complete. The tables are updated and as expected it was very close indeed.

Overall Time

Winner of the Overall time competition is Gregan Clarkson who completed the 8 courses an amazing 10 minutes and 53 seconds faster than second place John Broom. Congratulations Gregan on retaining your title! John was 1 minute 51 seconds quicker than 3^rd place Keith Littlewood. Keith beat me into 4^th by a ridiculous 23 minutes and 34 seconds! Paul Backon was the only other person to complete all 8 parkruns.

Gregan completed the same courses last year in 2:13:35 so he has an improvement of 27 seconds, setting a new record! John overall time is 2:32:38 (8 minutes 37 seconds quicker than last year) and myself in 2:52:23 (2 minutes 27 quicker). Paul is a new entry for 2014 so nothing to compare to from 2013

Age Grade

The winner of the Age Grade (WAVA) competition is Gregan Clarkson, congratulations Gregan. Dawn Broom was last years winner, Dawn has struggled with injury this year and Gregan has been able to add this to his collection. In second place this year is John Broom who is only 0.76% behind Gregan. A further 0.45% behind was Keith Littlewood in 3^rd place.

Gregan’s WAVA score of 625.54% does not set a record though, Dawns score of 626.71% still stands from 2013. Something to aim for Gregan?

John Broom retains his position as number 1 in this table, but was seriously made to work/travel for it! Last year John scored an impressive 31 points beating Dawn Broom by 2. This year John amassed 60 points pushed all the way by Keith with 59 points. Trips to Wales seems to have won over trips to Ireland. Dawn Broom came in 3^rd position with 9 points more than 2013 but one place lower. I hope all the traveling to different parkrun has been rewarding, same again next year? Since I will be in Australia for a few weeks in 2015 I propose a 10 point bonus for a parkrun south of the equator! So there we have it. I hope to do some analysis on the runners who competed in 2013 and 2014 but I need to find some elusive time to do that. Any personal objections to any analysis please let me know.

We have one new entrant so far for next year, Stephen Maddison, any others please contact me. Do we have anyone who wants to be taken of the list? Checking people each update who seem to have no real involvement in the leagues is a little frustrating. Happy to have everyone who want to be involved, involved. Any new entrants for 2015 need to let me know by the end of February. The end of next year could have a delayed final official update as I intend to be abroad.

Hi all,

It’s been a month a busy month. I enjoyed a run at Albert parkrun in Middlesbrough a few weeks ago and I can fully recommend that as a fast friendly parkrun.

So where are we with pYL?

We have had a few PB’s over the last month and special mention must go to Neil Mickleburgh for shaving a few seconds off his Hull parkrun. The other run that stood out was Gregan’s run in Scunthorpe. Not the easiest of parkruns, certainly not the flattest with some tight turns Gregan run a fantastic 15.59 age grade of 81.33%!

Overall time League we now have John Broom at the top 83 seconds ahead of Keith Littlewood. Is this one sewn up? Think lots depends if Gregan can get a good run at York before end of the year.

Age Grade League, 1.61% Keith has over John. Again there is a chance Gregan can overtake with a good run at York. Gregan are you going to York?

Unique parkruns league looks done and dusted to me. John has had a run in Wales and Ireland in the last month that has pushed him ahead of Keith who has been sticking local.

So with a few weeks left, time to kick back and say it’s too cold and windy to improve times at parkrun, or time to really show the rest what your made of…..?

Its all about me. Well it certainly is not but this post feels like that.....maybe you next?

Forgive my indulgence.

One of the reasons I put this little fun parkrun Yorkshire league together was to allow me to understand my running better and to be able to compare parkruns. Now with Graves changing their course  (making it a tad shorter to 5km) that does not help me, but I will put my fingers in my ears with that – for now.

Below are my results so far from 2103 and 2014 and I can see where I have got better and worse. I’ll also be looking at others times in this way as the final results of 2014 come in certainly in private, anyone any objections if I share on here?

So my overall time (decrease) and Age Grade (increase) has improved from 2013 to 2014 which is certainly good. I was faster at 6 out of the 8 courses in 2014. There are always anomalies like I was running with my dog at Pontefract in 2014 and she had a pit stop so that slowed me down, but I can take generalisations. I was faster in 2014 then 2013 and my age grade has improved too as I (rather surprising I know) got older in the last year. I can see the courses where I want to go back and give it another bash, but the year is running out….. but it is not over yet, I may get back to one of the 8 course, though 21.01 at Sewerby in 2013…how did I manage that!! Think Pontefract maybe is in my sights…if the weather holds. Surly I can run a sub 21 there?

2015, will I be faster or slower? Will the Hull Marathon become my A race and will I slow down? Time will tell.

9th of November Update

Hi all,

First to start off with a correction from last time. John Broom was down as having run 40 parkruns in England and 3 in Wales. I have just been through all of Johns runs for 2014 and that was incorrect. John as done 39 in England and 4 in Wales at the time of the last update. This will be reflected in the results going forward. I think my mistake was not recognising Colby as a Welsh parkrun.

So for this update:

Keith Littlewood has risen to the top of the Age Grade league but the battle rages with John Broom in not only this table but the other two as well. It seems both time is running out for Gregan to put up a fight…will he make the charge up the Age Grade and Overall Time tables? Im aware Gregan took a few wrong turns at Graves parkrun too, which certainly has not helped his claim.

The Unique Runs table is looking very top heavy with John and Keith really going for it. I wonder if Keith has any trips over the water to come, or if John will be visiting Wales again…

Nice to see Dave Playforth get a good time at Sewerby as he comes back from a long injury layoff and Dawn too seems to be on her way back. Still amazing Age Grade scores for Dawn even through all her injury setbacks.

Last point, we don’t see many 80% plus age grade scores. Keith managed that at Leeds last week, well done Keith.
